Aman At Sea: The Amangati Yacht Launching Ultra-Luxury Cruising in 2027
For decades, Aman has defined a particular genre of luxury: remote, minimal, profoundly connected to place. So when the brand announced Amangati, its first ocean-going vessel, the travel industry took notice. Not because luxury hotel brands entering the cruise market is new, Ritz-Carlton launched its yacht collection in 2022, and Four Seasons' vessel is under construction, but because Aman's ethos is so fundamentally about stillness and rootedness that putting it on the open ocean seemed almost paradoxical. The answer to that paradox is what makes Amangati one of the most anticipated launches in luxury travel.
The Vessel: Design & Dimensions
Cabin Philosophy
Amangati will carry just 50 suites across its approximately 180-meter length. For context, the Ritz-Carlton Evrima carries 149 suites. This gives Amangati one of the highest space-per-guest ratios of any vessel afloat. Interiors are being developed by Jean-Michel Gathy, the architect behind Amanoi in Vietnam and Aman New York, ensuring continuity with the land-based Aman design language: clean lines, natural materials, and an almost monastic restraint.
Onboard Amenities
The vessel will feature a full Aman Spa at sea, a Japanese-inspired onsen, two dining venues, a library lounge, and a marina platform for water sports and tender excursions. The pool deck is designed to feel like an Aman resort courtyard rather than a traditional cruise ship lido.
Planned Itineraries
Initial voyages will focus on the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, regions where Aman already has deep destination knowledge through its land properties. Expect itineraries connecting Sri Lanka to the Maldives, island-hopping through Indonesia's Lesser Sundas, and cultural cruises along the coast of Japan during cherry blossom season. What distinguishes Aman's approach is the integration with existing Aman resorts: guests may begin a voyage at Amanwella in Sri Lanka, spend several days at sea, and disembark at Amankila in Bali, with seamless luggage transfer and consistent service standards throughout. This "resort-to-yacht-to-resort" concept is genuinely novel in the ultra-luxury segment.
The Competitive Landscape
Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection
Launched 2022. 149 suites. More social, with multiple dining and bar venues. Broader appeal but less intimate.
Four Seasons Yacht
Under construction. 95 suites. Larger vessel with a Four Seasons service model. Itineraries TBC but expected to be global.
Amangati
Launching 2027. Just 50 suites. The smallest, most exclusive, and most design-driven of all hotel-brand yachts.
What This Means for Luxury Travel
Amangati represents a broader shift in ultra-luxury travel: the dissolution of categories. The distinction between "resort vacation" and "cruise" is becoming irrelevant for travelers seeking seamless, curated experiences. Aman's bet is that its guests do not want to choose between a beach resort and an ocean voyage; they want both, orchestrated as a single narrative. Industry analysts predict that by 2030, every major ultra-luxury hotel brand will operate at least one vessel. For travelers, this means unprecedented choice and, importantly, the ability to extend a trusted brand relationship across entirely new environments.
